Bathing a Cat Isn’t Easy, But it Can Be Fun to Watch!

If you’ve ever tried bathing a cat, you know that it’s not an easy job. Like, at all! With cats being pretty persnickety about their grooming, luckily, they don’t need to bathe very often. Still, there are times when cats get into messy situations prompting their human servants to have to lend a hand. Well, our latest video of the week caught a glimpse of what some kitty parents go through and while bathing a cat is never easy, some are pretty darn fun to watch! Check it out:

These cats really, REALLY hate the old scrub-a-dub! Some of them are so irritated by the sensation of being wet until they sound like they’re actually yelling, “noooo”!

Why is Bathing a Cat So Difficult?

Explanations vary as to why cats hate water as much as they do. Some experts believe it is because water slows them down. See, your fur baby is used to being quick on her feet and moving underwater quickly turns into a slow-motion event that most just cannot get used to. Other explanations include a cat’s fur feeling weighted down by water, as well as water dropping a furry feline’s body temperature to uncomfortable levels. As entertaining as videos about bathing a cat can be, we understand that these precious little ones are serious in their protests of bath time, so keep this in mind and be super patient the next time you’re compelled to bathe yours, ok?

Your Thoughts

What did you think of our latest video of the week? Do you have any special tips for bathing a cat? Keep in mind that our pet sitters are also experienced pet owners, so don’t hesitate to ask your sitter about her or his experiences with bathing a cat, too. You may find an idea or two you can use!

Smart Dog Ignores Treats From the Dog Catcher

Will a smart dog ever refuse treats? Depending on who sent them, you bet they will! As you’re about to see in our latest video of the week, there’s at least one very smart dog who knows that the dog catcher is bad news. So bad, in fact, that he won’t even accept treats sent to him by his nemesis! Watch this guy in action:

Not only is he super handsome, but he’s brilliant, right? Clearly, this cuddly character has plenty of room in his tummy for a yummy snack, but he appears to have a serious grudge against the dog catcher, too. This grudge far outweighs his hankering for food as he refuses every single kibble sent by the wrong person!

And notice how he literally turns his head away as if to say, “Nope, he’ll never catch me with the old tantalizing treat trick. I’m not even going to look at his phony gifts!” It appears that this smart dog is literally listening for the next name before even continuing to enjoy his snack time. This gorgeous guy clearly loves his family and enjoys the nibbles they’ve sent for his pleasure, but he’s not here for the dog catcher’s games. Nope, not here for them at all!

How’d This Smart Dog Do It?

Do you know a smart dog able to practice such resistance? How do you think this handsome guy came to develop his resolve? Do you think there’s a backstory to their feud? And what do you think this dog would say if he could have a few words with the dog catcher? Tell us what you think about the latest Fetch! Pet Care video of the week and don’t forget to share it with all of the pet lovers in your social networks.

What to Do When You Love Pets But Can’t Have One

love pets

If “No Pets Allowed” are the three most dreaded words in your life, you need to read what we’re about to share with you. People who love pets, but aren’t allowed to have one find a no pet policy to be a deal breaker when renting apartments, visiting hotels or even forming new relationships! We love pets, too, so we totally feel your pain. But what if there’s a way for you to keep loving pets without having to actually own one full time? Would you be up for exploring the possibilities? Well, you’re in luck! We’ve come up with some pretty cool ways for you to still spend time with pets despite your temporary pet-free existence.

Volunteer at a Shelter

It is unbelievable the number of cats and dogs languishing in shelters right now. These poor darlings would love nothing more than for you to come take them for a walk, play with them, read to them or just hang out and get to know them better. You can even volunteer for special adoption events to help them find a furever home. Contact the ASPCA to find shelters and volunteer opportunities in your area.

Foster a Pet

If you’re petless because you can’t make a long-term commitment to an animal, but you honestly love pets, fostering a homeless cat or dog might be the perfect option for you. Just because you can’t have a pet for life right now, doesn’t mean you can’t have one at all. Temporarily sheltering of an animal goes a long way in keeping abused, abandoned and neglected pets alive and healthy!

Take Advantage of Cat Cafes

What started in Taiwan has now expanded to America and people who love pets are just thrilled! Cat cafes are part coffee shop and part cat heaven as you can enjoy your favorite beverages while cuddling with fuzzy cats and kittens. Whether you merely visit a cat cafe as a regular patron or are lucky enough to find work in such a purrfect establishment, cat cafes are the place to be for people who love pets.

What Do You Think?

Taking dog says “I love you!”

talking dog

Sportive couple with husky taking a selfie with smartphone – Two friends smilingand having fun while resting in the shadow of palm trees on a tropical beach

When a gorgeous talking dog says, “I love you” our hearts just melt with glee! I mean, it’s not every day that you get to indulge in such an awesome sentiment shared by one so snuggly. Here, let us show you what we mean as you enjoy our latest video of the week:

Have you ever seen anything so precious in your entire life?! While each time she says it just oozes with emotion, listen carefully at the :22 second mark where this talking dog makes her words perfectly clear. Such a sweet, sweet sound to our ears!

Who Is This Talking Dog?

The talking dog in this video is named Mishka and she’s somewhat of an Internet sensation. With more than 785,000 subscribers on her own YouTube channel, it’s clear that people just can’t get enough of her various videos. Mishka is best known for phrases like, “I love you” and, “I want to go for a walk”. (Hmm, I bet she’d love to “talk” to one of our dog walkers, too!)

What’s the Deal With Talking Huskies?

You may recall another talking Husky featured in our weekly video spotlight a while back. All dogs have limited vocal abilities and some are known to mimic sounds they hear their human pals make. We don’t know what the science is behind it all, but Huskies seem to do this quite often. Perhaps it’s because they take after their wolf forefathers with a tendency to howl–a sound, by the way, that can be heard as far as 10 miles away!

Your Thoughts

Did you enjoy this talking dog as much as we did? If you have anything to add on why or how dogs talk or if you have a talking dog of your own, we want to hear all about it! Feel free to leave a comment below or let’s take this conversation to social media…just be sure to use the hashtag #FetchPetCare so that we can join you there!

CAT SITTER CHECKLIST: 8 Ways to Ensure Quality Care

cat sitter

Your cat sitter is experienced and competent, but she needs your help in providing your furball with the quality care he deserves. Chin scratching and neck rubs come naturally, but there are other things that your sitter must know–things that only YOU can tell her! Whether you’re preparing to be away from home for a few hours or several days, you undoubtedly have a lot on your mind. To make sure you don’t forget anything important, we thought we’d provide you with a cat sitter checklist that you can share with your caretaker before you head out the door.

Cat Sitter Checklist

  • Direct contact information – Please be sure your cat sitter has your cell number, a secondary number (such as the number to the hotel where you’ll be staying) or even a direct number for your traveling companion.
  • Emergency contacts – Before you go, provide your sitter with the names and telephone numbers of 3 local friends or family members who can be called upon if an emergency arises and you are unavailable.
  • Your veterinarian’s information – Jot down the name, telephone number, address and office hours of your veterinarian.
  • The name, telephone number and address of the nearest pet emergency hospital.
  • The telephone number for the ASPCA’s Animal Poison Control Center – (888) 426-4435
  • Pet insurance and/or medical billing information. (NOTE: If you need pet insurance, our partner PetPlan offers it to you as a discount just for being our friends.)
  • Precise care instructions such as exact feeding times, amounts, flavors, dietary restrictions, special medications, information about special treats, grooming tips and your cat’s daily exercise regimen.
  • Your cat’s likes and dislikes, including clues on where he may hide when he’s sleepy, agitated or does not feel well.

Use this checklist as your template and add any extra details of your own. Be sure to provide your sitter with the details of this list before you go and do so in enough time to discuss any points needing clarity or to answer any questions. Leave this information on clear display in your home, but also provide your cat sitter with a digital copy by text or email so that she has it with him at all times.

Expect the Unexpected

Most cat sitter visits go off without a hitch. In fact, many of them go even better than planned as your fluffy feline forms a new friendship bond with one so intensely dedicated to his care. Still, every now and then emergencies do happen and you want your sitter to be as calm, cool and collected as possible so that her entire focus can be directed to a solution instead of frantically searching for help. With this checklist, you’re providing a sort of lifeline, including backup support from friends and family if your kitty ever needs it.

While we go through great lengths to help you plan your sitter’s visit and we keep this information on file, it doesn’t hurt to be hyper-vigilant in this area. This is your fur baby, after all! So, embrace this checklist and refer to it often to make sure that all of your bases are covered and your cat sitter is empowered to provide the best care possible!

It’s Your Turn Now

If we forgot to put something important on our cat sitter checklist, let us know. And if you need a sitter in your area, by all means, give us a call and we’ll start the process of matching you with one who suits your cat’s personality right away!
