Top 5 Most Insane True Dog Stories

Some people are truly amazing. But these 5 insane true dog stories are something us humans just can’t compete with. You honestly can’t help but feel inspired by each and every one.

1) Swansea Jack

swansea jack, labrador retriever, true dog stories

This black Labrador retriever (although some believed him to be a Newfoundland dog) is long gone but his sweet memory most certainly is not. He got his name from living near the Swansea River in Wales, England. But why would you name a pet after the body of water you live next to? Well, only if the brave animal risked his own life to save almost 30 people over the course of his short life.

During the mid-thirties, when Swansea Jack was alive, he saw a little boy drowning in the water. He jumped in, pulled the boy to shore, and then continued to jump in and save people as time went on. He was a hero. They awarded him the silver cup for bravery from the mayor of London, and he even had a statue made of himself.

2) Barry the Saint Bernard

barry the saint bernard, saint bernard, true dog stories, dogs

We all know how large and monstrous Saint Bernards are. But they’re nothing but big, cuddly bears. Originally, they were bred as rescue dogs in cold, harsh climates. They always went out on missions in sets of two so, once the person was found, one would sit on them for warmth while the other went for help.

Barry the Saint Bernard was so good at what he did, rescuing over 40 victims during the course of his 12 years, that event to this day, there’s always a rescue dog named Barry at the monastery where the original lived.

3) Jasmine the Greyhound

jasmine the greyhound, greyhound, dogs, true dog stories

Poor Jasmine the Greyhound was a stray dog who was discovered alone, shaking, and starving in a locked garage. A cop had found her and brought the dog to a wildlife sanctuary where she was nursed back to health.

The incredible thing about this story is that, unlike most abandoned and abused dogs, jasmine was gentle and nurturing. As soon as she began to feel better, she immediately began helping other strays that came in feel better.

She was a foster dog mother to puppies, kittens, foxes, chicks, Guinea pigs, bunnies, and even a deer during the better half of her life.

4) Ramen Noodle the Poodle

ramen noodle the poodle, poodle, dogs, true dog stories

It’s so sad when you see an animal without all of it’s limbs, or is injured in a way that affects their entire life. But you can’t feel sad for Ramen Noodle the poodle. This dog was born with all of his limbs, but lost his front two arms in two separate incidents after breaking the bones beyond repair.

Ramen quickly jumped back to good health each time, and never lost hope. He learned to walk/hop around on two legs and even has a specially made wheelchair for long walks. He’s the perfect example of staying positive.

5) Glenn and Buzz

buzz and glenn, jack russell terrier, dogs, true dog stories

Have you ever heard of a seeing eye dog…dog? Well, that’s pretty much what Buzz is for his best buddy Glenn in this one true dog stories. Glenn, the Jack Russell Terrier, is blind in both eyes and Buzz leads him around all day long. He helps his friend find the food bowl, avoid walls, and safely go for a walk each day. Buzz and Glenn, now that’s true friendship!

9 Of the Best Pets for Families with Kids

cats, dogs, best pets for families with kids

Are you thinking about getting a pet for your family? Do you have small kids at home and are nervous about what animals will and will not work well with them? Well, this list is a great source of ideas and a perfect place to start when searching for the best pets for families with kids.

1) Dogs

Of course dogs would be at the top of this list! Everyone loves dogs and they’re the ultimate family pet. However, there are some breeds that are best for families with kids due to their durability, energy levels, and maintenance.

Bull dogs, despite societies misconceptions, are amazing family pets. They’re loyal, protective, are built like bricks walls, and require very little maintenance aside from cleaning their faces.

2) Pigs

This is an unlikely addition to this list but pigs are seriously great family pets. Much like a bull dog, they’re built strong and can stand up to the rough housing kids often do. They’re just as clean, or even cleaner at times, as dogs and are super playful.

3) Hamsters

Sadly, hamster became a common family pet because they don’t live that long. They’re branded as the “starter pet”, but really should be taken more seriously than that. Hamsters are fun, playful, and can teach younger kids minor responsibilities.

4) Guinea Pigs

In same the light as hamsters, guinea pigs often get chosen as the starter pet. But they’re even better than hamsters! Bigger, fluffier, and more playful. Sounds good to me! My kids loved their guinea pig.

5) Fish

A simple goldfish would do, but you can spruce up the tank with angel fish, bottom feeders, and clown fish. The kids love watching them and you can teach a little bit of responsibility with the feedings and cleaning of the tanks.

6) Birds

Although a lot of people find birds to be annoying and loud, they make really great family pets. They interact well with other birds, are easy to clean up after, and some breeds, such as budgies and parrots, can be taught to speak. Canaries and finches are really playful and are great with small kids.

7) Cats

There are dog people and then there are cat people. So, for those of you who prefer the feline variety, a cat would make an excellent family pet. They basically clean up after themselves, require very little training, and are super cuddly.

8) Snakes

Snakes are incredibly low maintenance and make a great first time, starter pet for families with kids. Corn snakes and ball pythons are the best. They only require to be fed once a week, cage cleaning once per month, and no special cleaners required. And despite what most people think, snakes very rarely bite unless starved or taunted.

9) Turtle

You never have to worry about these guys running away. They’re easy to take care of and live a long time. Turtles are resilient and co-exist really well with other turtles. Great family pet.

cats, dogs, best pets for families with kids

And that about wraps it up! There are tons of great first time pets or best pets for families with kids, but this list sums up the most common species to consider first.

cats, dogs, best pets for families with kids

Of course, if you’re ever in doubt, you can always go see your local pet care provider or quality pet store. They’ll have tons of information about what pet would be great for your particular household.

How to Treat Bull Dog Acne at Home

Dog Laying On His Back

Any owner of a bullie knows that the dreaded dog acne comes hand in hand with the breed. This can present itself as tiny pimples on the chin, a widespread rash down their necks, and even large blisters all over their mouths.

We often end up taking them to the vet where it’s determined that it’s just acne and not something serious and then sent home with medication. But you don’t have to result to that if it’s not necessary. There are ways to treat bull dog acne right from your home.

Wash Their Face

This may seem like a no-brainer, but washing your dog’s face isn’t something any owner often thinks of. And it’s not necessary with every breed. But with bull dogs, you get those wrinkly jowls that fill with bacteria and saliva; a breeding ground for acne.

So, at the end of the day, when your pup has eaten its last meal, get a warm soapy wash cloth and clean their face, lips, and jowls. Aim to use a non-scented soap and one that’s a disinfectant.

Set aside some cloths that are specifically used for cleaning your dog’s face and don’t mix them with ones you use for yourself.

Clean Their Dishes

We wash our plates and bowls after every meal. So why would we do the same for our dogs? Although it’s not necessary to wash their dishes as frequently as our own, it’s still a great idea to do it at least once a week.

As for water dishes, these really should be properly washed every other day as this is where most of their drool and food bits end up.

The saliva and food remnants stick to the bowl create bacteria that you then put new food and water into. This not only creates acne on the chin, but also intestinal issues.

Check Their Food

Sometimes, you can be as clean and cautious as you possibly can and your bull dog will still get painful pimples. This might be due to its food. Check to make sure you’re feeding your pet quality food that has been approved by the AAFCO (American Association of Feed Control) and contains ingredients that are actually food, not by-products.

Clean Sheets

Their bed or the area where they sleep should be kept clean and fresh at all times. Don’t let their beds and blankets get full of fur, dirt, and drool. This creates a poor environment that supports germs and other nasty things. Then they go and sleep in it!

When washing your dog’s bed or blankets, make sure to use scent free laundry detergents as the perfumes in others can cause them to break out, too.

In conclusion, bull dogs are awesome. We just love their cute wrinkles and floppy faces. But they are sensitive and require frequent maintenance in regards to their cleanliness.

And of course, if the pimples persist, take your dog to the vet to ensure it’s not something serious like an allergic reaction. Share any bull dog acne tips you may have and show us a picture of your bullie in the comments below!

Can Dogs Eat Lamb Bones?

Close Up Of Jack Russell Terrier Dog Exited By Chewing An Oversize Bone

It’s a widely known fact that dogs love their bones. They salivate at the site of them and just love to drag one off to a quiet place and gnaw on it for hours. But there’s a few misconceptions about what bones dogs can and can’t have. Beef is pretty common as a yes. But can dogs eat lamb bones? The simple answer is yes, but there’s more you should know. Let’s take a look.

Edibles and Chewables

First, you should know that there are two types of bones for dogs; edibles and chewables. Some refer to them as edible and recreational, too. Regardless, edibles are the type that actually provides nutritional value to your pet. Ones such as chicken or turkey.

However, you can’t give these to dogs as is. They’re too soft and small. Instead, grind them up in a blender and add to their food. It gives them extra vitamins and minerals.

Chewables, or recreational bones are not meant to be completely eaten. They’re for the fun of chewing and to treat your pet. These should be the large variety like beef, ham, or lamb and should only be of large legs bones or hips. These are hard to break and will last for hours.

Raw, Not Cooked

Make sure that any bones you give your dog is raw. I know a lot of pet owners give their pooch cooked bones left over from a roast or a ham, but it’s not a great idea. Cooked bones are softer and loose a lot of their structure. This causes them to break and splinter easily and these pieces get stuck in your dog’s esophagus and digestive track.

Extra Tips

-Never leave your dog unattended with a bone for too long. They can choke just as fast and easily as we can. This can lead to constipation, choking, surgery, and even death.

-Lamb bones for dogs is a great choice, along with beef or ham. That’s right. Can dogs eat ham bones is no longer a question. It’s now added to the acceptable list with beef and lamb. They’re large, heavy, and don’t break easily. Just makes sure to take them away once the bones get down to a swallowing size.

-If your dog is prone to irritable bowel, stomach issues, or bouts of diarrhea, then don’t give them bones at all. The marrow inside is known to be extremely rich and activates any of these problems. Just avoid it altogether and consider bones alternatives such as rawhide chews, NylaBone, or rawhide bones.

Dog And A Bone

And there you go. Can dogs eat lamb bones? Yes! They can, among many others. You just have to know how and when to give it to them. Just remember that bones should be big, raw, and hard. If they’re small and soft, then you should grind them up and mix with food.

If you have any questions or concerns about your dog and bone issues, feel free to comment below!
